The Future of Work (Space) in a Struggling Economy
This is where you go to be occupied. To make things happen. When you know exactly what you want or when your life is in transition: to discover your path, or rediscover your potential. To Grow. Create. Develop. Connect.
In 2013 California was still working its’ way out of the financial crisis of 2008. A tough work market produced needs for finding new, creative ways to allocate and create work, as well undiscovered avenues to connect the work force with employers. Could a new type of space that gathers these two groups in one condensed urban environment help aid a broken economy, and if so, do we need to think about “work space” differently? Could this cross-disciplinary work hub be a new effective way to better discover, develop and display people’s potential and creativity in an increasingly virtual world?
This thesis examines a proposed concept and physical structure as the solution, and with the proposal opens up the discussion to how we view, effectively utilize and create accessibility to occupation and creativity as the driving force of our economic system.
